Successful Weekend for Future Loggers

The second weekend of the college baseball season also saw some great performances from some future La Crosse Loggers. Many soon-to-be Loggers are taking full advantage of the opportunities they are receiving from their respective college teams.
Making a big splash this weekend was Florida Gulf Coast catcher Mike Reeves. Reeves went 5-5 with four RBI’s and four runs scored in the second game of a double-header. In the last game of this weekend’s series, Reeves went 2-3 with three runs scored as the Eagles improve to 6-1 on the season. Reeves is now 11-22 on the season with eight RBI’s.
Continuing to impress at UCLA is Dean Espy. Espy’s best performance this weekend came against Vanderbilt as he went 2 for 2 with two RBI’s in a 9-2 victory. Espy is currently the leading hitter for the undefeated 23rd ranked Bruins as he is 5 for 10 this season with two home runs and seven RBI’s.
Striking out five batters for the second time in as many appearances is Alex Najera (Pepperdine). Najera did not allow a hit in two innings of work for the Waves this weekend.
Future Loggers of the University of Memphis enjoyed nice individual performances this weekend for the Tigers. Outfielder Derrick Thomas went 5 for 10 with an RBI over the weekend while Dan Langfield earned his first win of the season after pitching the final 2.2 innings striking out three batters.
San Diego State took two out of three against in-state rival San Diego University as Blaire Moore (San Diego State) went 3 for 10 with an RBI over the weekend. Matt Moynihan (San Diego) appeared in two of the games going 1-5 with a run scored for the Toreros.
Kurt Heyer (Arizona) turned in another quality starts for the Wildcats as he pitched 5.2 innings striking out seven batters before handing over a three run lead to the bull-pen. However, Arizona would go on to lose the game as Heyer earned a no-decision.
Despite dropping two of three games to Fresno State, Jacob Lamb (Washington) had a solid weekend going 6 for 12 with an RBI while starting at third base for the Huskies.
Ryan Behmanesh did his share as Dallas Baptist swept Western Michigan this weekend in a three game series. Behmanesh went 6-14 from the plate while driving in three RBI’s. Dallas Baptist improves to 6-1 on the season after the three game sweep.
Starting in all three of his team’s games at catcher this weekend was Bennett Pickar (Oral Roberts). Pickar went 3 for 11 with an RBI as Oral Roberts starts their season at 0-3 after being swept by Florida International.
Enjoying another successful weekend was Tony Mueller and the Winona State Warriors. The Warriors took three out of four games against Wayne State at the Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minnesota over the weekend. Muller went 4 for 11 in the first three games while pitching 6.2 innings in the team’s fourth game allowing five hits and five earned runs while striking out nine batters in a no-decision.
